SACRAMENTO - California (CNNNN&N) -- Beleaguered California Governor Gray Davis appoints a punching balloon toy, Mohammed Saeed al-Slappo, as new press secretary.
In what may yet be one of the bizarrest twists in the California gubernatorial recall election, Governor Gray Davis has appointed a new press secretary to handle the media campaign aimed at defeating the recall.
Mohammed Saeed al-Slappo, who bears a striking resemblance to the former Iraqi Minister of Information, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaaf, dubbed Comical Ali, Baghdad Bob, and parodied on a popular internet website, jumped into his new position by attacking recall proponents: "Let the right-wing infidels bask in their illusion!"
Much like the former Iraqi Information Minister, al-Slappo has given Davis a "spirited" defense against his many detractors during his first week, however, his press conferences seem to have confirmed that Davis might want to get started on packing up the governor's mansion.
When asked what he thought about the legion of popular and well-funded challengers to Davis, al-Slappo commented: "Our initial assessment is that they will all lose." Was he or the Davis camp scared? "No, I am not scared. And neither should you be!"
Days later, when asked about Republican challenger Arnold Schwarzenegger's quick rise in the polls, al-Slappo replied passionately: "The midget Schwarzenegger and that Huffington deserve only to be beaten with shoes by Democrats everywhere. God will roast their stomachs in hell at the hands of Democrats."
Let the right-wing infidels bask in their illusion!

Ultra-conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said yesterday that when he first heard al-Slappo, "I laughed so hard I lost 5 lbs! Folks, in that clown, you are looking at the end of the Democrats as a viable political party."
Gov. Gray Davis defeated Repblican Bill Simon in last year's election. Davis is trying to defeat the October 7 recall. If at least half of California's voters choose to recall Davis, one of 135 replacement candidates will become governor.
